Life skills training or vocational education is an education that prepares people to work as a technician or to take up employment in a skilled craft or trade as a tradeperson or artician. Vocational Education can also be seen as that type of education given to an individual to prepare that individual to be gainfully employed or self employed with requisite skill.
Nepal faces significant gaps in vocational education and employment opportunities, particularly for orphaned and vulnerable children. Nepal’s education system primarily focuses on academic subjects, with limited emphasis on practical skills that prepare youth for employment. Despite improvements in general education, the transition from school to employment remains a challenges due to:
-Limited access to skill-based education and vocational training.
-High dropout rates among marginalized children, particularly in secondary education.
-Lack of employment pathways for youth leaving children’s homes.
Only 45% of student complete secondary education (Ministry of Education, 2003)
Among orphaned children, dropout rates are even higher due to lack of financial support and career guidance.
While children's homes provide basic necessities like food, shelter, and education, they often fall short in preparing children for independent living once they age out of institutional care at 18 years old. This project aims to bridge that gap by equipping these vulnerable children with the vocational and life skills necessary for self-reliance, employment, and personal development.
The areas of vocational traininings are:
- Beauticians
- Cooks
- Barbers
- Photographers
- Coffee makers,
- Waiters,
- Plumbers
- Electricians,
- Cake makers
- Gardeners, etc.
